Thames was once a wild colonial gold rush town but which is today considered as the largest commercial center in the Coromandel Peninsula.
I could fairly say that Thames is really an ideal place during holidays because visitors from across the globe have a variety of options from all types of accommodation and places to stay at very reasonable rental fees plus an enjoyable cold breeze, wonderful really. Take a look at the following pictures of the houses found within the area of Thames:
When you happen to be in Thames, please don’t just drive through on the way to its beaches and public parks. Take some time to breathe the fresh air that the scenery freely offers, shoot some pictures like we did. It’s great to be amongst the crowd in the beaches together with a flock of birds or with friendly trees and bushes wherein you could feel the warm embrace of mother nature.
And you ought not to miss seeing the famous monument while you are in Thames. It was built in honor to the selfless heroes and veterans of the world war 1.
Wondering what is there to do when you are in Thames?
There are a lot, actually. Goldfields Shopping Mall is an excellent avenue for shoppers. It is open every day (7 Days) and it has over 30 specialty stores including The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Foodcourt including McDonalds, Pak N Save Supermaket. Airconditioned, public amenities & plenty of free parking. Well, I noticed that McDonald’s and KFC are a hit in the area. Walking distance cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, flower shops, video rental stores and book shops — these are just some of the lovely diversions for the shoppers’ attention.
Of course, you shouldn’t miss taking pictures of which New Zealand is most popular for, the cows from nearby farms:
Oh and fyi, there are residents who open their garage to sell their pre-loved items every Saturday and sometimes on Sundays, too.
I went there together with my sister and my brother-in-law and guess what? We bought these items, from the garage-sale, all for 7 dollars: photo album, stuffed toys (winnie the pooh, the fish, the penguin, kuala), tweety lampshade, photo frame, children’s books (pinocchio and peter pan), scarf, vase table-like stool and photo organizer.
For only 50 cents each, these books contain especially selected four stories from different popular authors per book. Aren’t they great? Cheers!
Thames Market also offers great goodies for shoppers at very affordable prices every Saturday morning from 9:00am to noon time. Since today is Saturday, I went to Thames Market at 9am and took some pictures of what was being sold along the streets, they were awesome.
You really have to visit this lovely and friendly place of Thames in New Zealand when you can. It’s a great experience to be here!
